We have tried to find a way to keep shipping to our wonderful customers in the United States, however the current change in tariffs has meant we’ve had to cease posting to America.

Our current understanding is that there will be FOUR separate charges:

1. Import duty. This is based on the HS/HTS code of the product. For yarn, this is generally between 4% and 7.5%.

2. Reciprocal Tariff Rate: Based on Country of origin (COO). For example, 10% for UK, 15% for Turkey, 25% for India, 30% for China. These are where most yarn spinners are based.

3. Section 301 Tariff Rate: Based on HS/HTS code. 25% for yarn (ouch). This is the one most people aren’t aware of yet, but also the one with the most question marks over whether it will apply or not. We currently believe it will, but may be wrong.

4. Clearance fee / use of deferment fee: Generally between 4% and 5%, plus between £0.50 and £2.00 per order.

So the likely average extra charges will be in the region of 50% based on our current understanding.

We could try and implement a system where the extra charges are collected on our website before we ship. This is not easy or cheap to do, and we don’t think many people would be willing, able or should have to pay the extra 50%. It simply isn’t a viable option for us at the moment but there could be a possible solution given more time and if the charges were to reduce.
